My Wellness Story

My regret though, and it is sizable and tender, is that I let myself suffer and deteriorate - body and soul. And it’s naive to think that didn’t have profoundly negative effects on my children and my husband. I know it did. I cared for all (3) of them the best I could. But the person I was dragging back to our home, week after week, was a poor substitute for the wife and the mother I wanted to be. I was not well. But I was very, very productive. And it didn’t occur to me to stop. In a thousand ways you live by the sword and you die by the sword when you allow other people to determine your best choices, when you allow yourself to be carried along by what other people think your life should be, could be, must be? When you hand them the pen and tell them to write your story? You don’t get the pen back. Not easily anyway.

MY WELLNESS STORY

I enjoy a good story. Hearing why people are passionate, what led them to where they are, what’s their why. It’s because of this I’d like to share a bit about my own.. Specifically, my wellness story.

For me wellness is both physical, it is emotional, and it is spiritual. It’s a fine balance of listening to my body, honoring gut instinct, and making decisions for myself and our family based on a lot of prayer, research, and open-mindedness.

This has looked differently over the years and it’s been an ever evolving journey, one that has twisted and turned, surprising me at nearly every corner. I’ve felt both empowered and terrified, strong and weak, but I’ve also come to a place of peace with the balance we’ve created.

The First Loss

When my mom died in 2013 of a rare, aggressive cancer, I was paralyzed with fear. I lost all trust in modern medicine, in most doctors, and certainly in the specific insurance network she had. I read all 1,200 pages of her medical records shortly after she passed, through the blur of wet eyes, and felt the pain of her loss in a fierce and surprising way. Those records were bursting with medical mistakes on the part of her care team and it would take years for me to come out of that anger.

anxiety

My entire life anxiety has plagued me, though I wouldn’t understand the disorder until I was well into adulthood. PPD was an unexpected guest after two of my three babies, so needless to say, I have been wading in the waters of doubt and uncertainty when it comes to what wellness means to me for a very long time.

EASTERN VS WESTERN

I’ve always leaned towards more holistic choices for our family - turning to things such as colloidal silver, elderberry syrup, essential oils, and good ole vitamin D before jumping the gun to the pediatricians office. We have found and enjoyed discovering all that this earth has to offer, created by a God who loves + cares for us. With that being said, I can appreciate the place western medicine plays in our society, despite the horror story my sweet mama endured in her final months.

FAITH + BALANCE

My faith has brought me out of the darkness of those days, giving me more peace and certainty that the right balance for our family is, the right balance for our family. We have the unique opportunity to do what we feel is best for ourselves and our children - what a blessing!

MORE LOSS

Since losing my mom, grief has come calling again, not once but twice. In early 2017 my brother died of a Fentanyl overdose, devastating us all. Nine months later, my sister and I would hold our dad’s hand as he too entered Heaven. Medically, a fungal infection took him - but I know the brokenness of his heart was his ultimate demise. Emotionally, the last five years have been the hardest I’ve had to walk through and I’ve been exploring what this new normal looks like. It’s a continual search, but I’m beginning to find just the right pieces that fit this puzzle.

my heart

I’m a passionate advocate for mental health, living life after loss, breaking the stigma of addiction, and doing what is best for YOU. Not your neighbor or your cousin, but doing what is the best thing for you and your family. I share a lot about our emotional and physical wellness over on Instagram, as well as here.

My journey towards holistic health and the balance it plays in our lives has been shaped by an assortment of resources: namely my sister, a handful of lovely + incredible friends, and of course some women I’ve only had the pleasure of knowing through a screen - but none the less, I am inspired, educated, and better for it.

Thank you for joining me here. It’s really an honor to speak from my heart, and hopefully, encourage + inspire you as well.

Fruit + Veggie Wash Naturally

Natural Fruit + Veggie Cleaner / www.angiewarren.com

A few years ago I shared my easy go-to for cleaning fresh fruits, I’ve since taken it a step further and wanted to give you an update. The method in my previous post about this still works fine, but I heard really good things about the Thieves Fruit + Veggie Soak, so I added it to my monthly wellness box and am really pleased.

The sheer number of oils included in this natural cleaner blew me away. Essentially it’s made up of Young Living’s very own DiGize, Purification, and Thieves blends. But what exactly does that mean? Here is a breakdown of every oil in this powerhouse, super concentrated, 16oz jug:

  • Tarragon oil

  • Ginger root oil

  • Peppermint oil

  • Juniperus osteosperma oil

  • Fennel oil

  • Lemongrass oil

  • Clove bud oil

  • Rosemary leaf oil

  • Citronella oil

  • Anise seed oil

  • Lemon peel oil

  • Patchouli oil

  • Cinnamon bark oil

  • Tea tree leaf oil

  • Lavandin oil

  • Eucalyptus radiata oil

  • Tunisian Myrtle oil

  • Moroccan Myrtle oil

WHAT IS THE COST:

I mean, that’s a flipping whole lot of gorgeous essential oils, to naturally remove build up, dirt, and who on earth knows what is on our produce these days, for as low as $19.75 (wholesale, retail price is $25.99). Incredibly, that breaks down to just .62c PER USE.

Natural Fruit + Veggie Cleaner / www.angiewarren.com

Just look, at that, water. This was after soaking a carton of strawberries from the store. I couldn’t believe how much ick came off of them.

How to Use:

I toss about 1/2 ounce (or 1T) for every bowl (roughly half gallon) of water. Completely cover produce and soak (I give it a little stir) for 1–2 minutes. Then, I rinse with clean water in my strainer. It’s completely tasteless, and I trust that I’m not giving my family fresh fruits and veggies with a side of garbage.

Natural Fruit + Veggie Spray for On the Go / www.angiewarren.com

Take it on the go!

I also added this little gem to my wellness box, so when we are out, I can quickly wash any produce we might pick up. It’s a little 2oz Fruit + Veggie Spray and fits perfectly in my purse! Simply spray, rub for about 30 seconds, and rinse. Easy as can be.

What is Dry Brushing and Why Do It (bonus tips, too!)

Dry Brushing / www.angiewarren.com

Earlier this year we were able to have our eyes looked at by our amazing Iridologist (lots more on this soon). One of the biggest takeaways for me was what she saw regarding my lymphatic system. It doesn’t drain well, which can lead to a laundry list of concerns, namely one of my biggest fears since losing my mom: cancer.

I began to research and study the lymphatic system and was surprised by what I found, but as always, knowledge is power. Dry Brushing kept popping up as a way to stimulate the lymph to move, so I ordered a set of brushes and haven’t looked back.

What is and Why Dry Brush?

According to Dr. Mercola, “Dry skin brushing promotes lymphatic drainage of toxic waste, which results in many other benefits such as improved immunity, refreshed skin, and reduction of cellulite.”

Our skin is our largest organ, (the one responsible for elimination) after all, and so often overlooked in the care of our bodies. Skin plays a massive role in detoxifying the body and when unable to do so properly, waste can not be removed, and we become sick.

When we Dry Brush, our lymph is woken up, and better able to release toxins and waste. It’s known to reduce cellulite, energize you in the morning, improve circulation, and most importantly, eliminate toxic waste.. All good stuff.

How to Dry Brush

First, be sure your brush is made of natural materials - this is super important. Mine is made of Boar bristles. Dry Brushing shouldn’t hurt, you’ll feel it, yes, but you shouldn’t wince with every brush. I made the mistake of getting my first brush at Target and thought “How on earth do people do this every day, ouch!”. Thankfully I did my research, and ended up with this set, which I love (the long handle option is amazing for my back).

  1. Always brush towards your heart, and begin at your feet. I like doing short bursts, not too much pressure, remember, this isn’t supposed to cause pain.

  2. I begin with the bottoms of my feet, moving to the tops, and up both legs. Especially concentrating on my thighs (go away cellulite, go).

  3. Next I do my tummy, and sides (small circles on belly) and moving up to my breasts (super, super important in allowing lymph movement to avoid breast cancer - also remember to be gentle here due to sensitive skin).

  4. Then, my arms/hands. Going from finger tips and “down” towards my heart, including armpits (again, important).

  5. I move onto my back and butt now, that long handle attachment is super handy here, and man it feels so good on my back!

  6. I love the Kit I got, as it includes a softer face brush, I use this on my neck and face (softer brushing here).

  7. That’s it! I like to shower after to wash off all the brushed skin (alternating hot and cold water helps improve circulation as well!).

I also like Hello Glow’s video if you need a little visual!

Dry Brushing / www.angiewarren.com

What Then

After my shower, I like to massage various essential oils onto my skin in combination with a high quality, organic, cold-pressed coconut oil (I like this one). A few fave combos:

  • Grapefruit + Cypress

Grapefruit (one of my top fave oils ever) is a powerhouse known to improve cellulite by tightening the skin + Cypress is known to increase circulation and tone the skin!

  • Rosemary + Cedarwood

Rosemary is one of those great for moving lymph and improving circulation + Cedarwood maintains the appearance of healthy, youthful skin.

  • Lemon + Cypress

Lemon helps reduce the appearance of aging + Cypress is known to increase circulation and tone the skin!

(Keep in mind that citrus oils are photosensitive, so be sure to avoid direct sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after topical application.)

Come As You Are: An Invitation to Intuitive Eating

Come As You Are - An Invitation to Peace with Food + Body - Intuitive Eating - www.angiewarren.com

Can we have an honest conversation?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a deep one. It’s a revealing, honest, vulnerable one. I’d like to talk for a moment about this body of mine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have spent the better part of my life in a war, a struggle with an internal dialogue that has spoken lies and untruths. Spit hatred like poison, more often than not as a whisper. But the most painful whisper you’ll never actually hear.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have told myself I’m not worthy. I’m not good enough. I’ve spoken that I’ll not be accepted unless I fit the ideal that so much of the world has told me I should be.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve allowed the words of others, some from those closest to me, to creep in and settle right there on my heart. “She shouldn’t be wearing that bathing suit, did you see her?” or “Wow she sure put on some pounds since I saw her last.” or “She isn’t small enough to accomplish that.”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And even if those words weren’t directed at me, I positioned them to be. I absorbed them. I allowed them to fuel a fire that was burning so great, I was choking on the embers that remained.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have spent the majority of my adult life dealing with Disordered Eating, I’ve hidden behind creative poses on camera, I’ve filtered myself into a position where I thought I was likely acceptable.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And now? Now? I’m done hiding. I’m done with the games. I’m done with the diets. I’m done with the idea that I’m only worthy when I’m back in a size 4. I am done. with. the. hiding.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because here’s the truth of it: this body has created four babies, birthed three of them. It’s walked me through some of the worst days I wouldn’t wish on my most awful enemy. It’s carried me when I wanted to curl up and join the family members who went before me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it’s pretty damn unfair that I’ve told it it’s not good enough. It’s pretty unfair that I’ve ever potentially allowed my children to think they’re anything less than the magnificent prize their Jesus created them to be.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I’m on a mission and it started with this, confession of sorts, today. To raise my voice and hope it encourages you to even find yours. To know you are beautiful as you are. To know restriction does NOT bring joy and diets are NOT going to last.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You don’t have to hide. You don’t have move your body out of punishment. You don’t have to count or track or measure your way into glory. You can come just as you are and stand tall with me. I am forever and ever and ever grateful for the friend that said those words to me. She offered me and continues to, a safe place to stand. The encouragement and the knowledge that there is peace to be found with both food and body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And it doesn’t come with a membership or a good and bad food list. It doesn’t come with pills or scale obsession. It comes with time and kindness and lots and lots of freaking hard heart work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can sit with me. Please, sit with me. Let’s change this for our sons and for our daughters. Let’s raise our voices and declare WE ARE GOOD AS WE ARE. The world needs more voices like this. I hope to hear yours, too.

Colloidal Silver | My Secret Wellness Weapon

COLLOIDAL SILVER - How it's Changed Our Lives (Angie Warren)

What is Colloidal Silver?

Silver is a natural element. Colloidal means suspended in water. So, Colloidal Silver is, silver suspended in purified water. Silver has been used medicinally for thousands of years, up until the early 1900's when physicians actually used it quite often - but with antibiotics came a decline in the use of silver. In fact, Hippocrates, wrote that silver had "beneficial healing and anti-disease properties". He raved about silver, how it repaired tissue and aided in the healing process. In my research, I also learned that in the past, silver was widely used in storing water, and eating with, as it had such anti-bacterial properties.

It is known for:

- being antibacterial/antibiotic

- treating burns, thrush, and other skin conditions, even insect bites

- antiviral properties

- being anti-allergy

- providing anti-inflammatory relief

What's our story?

Winter 2014/2015 was HARSH for us. We'd never had such a bad season of sickness. I think at one point we calculated that we'd spent nearly $2k in ($30) co-pays for the doctors office, and Rx for us and the kids. Not only that but I missed a total of 5 weeks in teaching, because I had to stay home with our sick children. I feel like we were sick. all. the. time. Just about every infection you can come up with, one of us had. I was over it. One Friday morning in early February I was texting a friend about my strep throat. I told her our Danny had been on three Rx already this year for a sinus infection and none of us was feeling much better.

She immediately told me about Silver. Their family had been through two or three rounds of strep that antibiotics wasn't touching, and when they went to Silver, their infections were gone in days. I was desperate. It was Friday, I tried our family doctor but she wasn't in I'd need to go to Urgent Care for my throat. I wasn't about to pay $50 for the visit, plus another $30 for medicine. So I took her advice and took a chance, drove to the next town over and picked it up.

By the next day my throat felt much better, the white spots nearly gone, and the swelling had gone down tremendously. And another day, the infection was completely gone. I could not believe it. It was the most incredible thing in the world. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to see the images of my throat, they're... graphic, warning).

I began to wonder if this Silver stuff could help the rest of us. We were currently dealing with: three sets of pink eye, one ear infection, one sinus infection, and a strep-looking mess in my oldest son's throat. I researched and researched and found some helpful information. Sure enough, Silver has been known to help ALL of these. So I went Silver crazy. We had just run out of pink eye drops that day, so I switched to silver. They were cleared the next day. All three kids. Incredible. My daughter woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain from her ear. A dose of Motrin, and Silver in her ear, and she slept through the night. We never did go in for that one.

Time and time again, we saw Silver changing the way we dealt with our health and slowly but surely, we found ourselves healthy again.

Even when I came down with my first ever, sudden, UTI, Silver to the rescue, I never needed to see my doctor. I followed the "power dose" for a few days (see more below).

A few months passed and the dreaded stomach bug was circulating throughout our school. I do NOT handle this well. I just don't. I started to panic. Three kids in my daughter's preschool class (of only 7 kids total) had it, five or six in my son's 4th grade class, and I believe the Kinder class had it too. It was a mess, every day I heard of another student home throwing up.

I asked my friend and searched some more and found that Silver can be a hugely effective tool in keeping our systems healthy and strong, so we went for it. Diligently, I dosed Silver to the kids and I and prayed and prayed and prayed - and by the grace of God we remained stomach flu free. I truly attribute that to God taking care of us, AND the strong anti-bacterial, immunity boosting Silver particles.

Additionally, my husband has sensitive eyes and often his contacts cause intense eye infections. I caught him using silver on a number of occasions, so we keep it in our bathroom too.

With all that being said, I'm not an affiliate, I make no money on this blog post. I just feel that strongly about it. I can not imagine life without Silver now, and make sure we always have a bottle on hand.

Angie Warren // Wellness + Colloidal Silver

What dosage is best?

Keep in mind this is what our family does, based on suggestions from those who have used it, naturopaths, and research done. I am not a doctor.

Colloidal Silver can be taken daily as an immunity booster. We do this. Especially now that school is back in session. Each of us takes a dose each morning. It tastes and looks just like water, but occasionally has a slight metallic taste that I kid you not, is gone in 20 seconds if you even have it. All of my kids take it happily, and they are the most picky when it comes to food and drink. So I'm thankful for that. If this is the case, you take one dose per day.

For an adult that would be 1 teaspoon (or 6 droppers full)

For a child one daily dose would be 1/2 teaspoon (or 3 droppers full)
*I give this to my three year old daughter, I am not sure about kids younger than that*

Colloidal Silver as the anti-antibiotic. I call it this because this is what we take now in stead of an Rx. This is what I did for the throat infection mentioned above, and viewed below. It's sometimes called a "power dose". You continue the "power dose" until symptoms are 100% gone, and even then I went one day longer. The doses between the two images at the bottom of the post was somewhere after my 7th dose, so one day.

For an adult power dose: 1 teaspoon, each hour, for 7 hours (so a total of 7/per day)

For an older child (6+): 1/2 teaspoon, each hour, for 7 hours (so a total of 7/per day)

For a younger child (3-5): 1/2 teaspoon, three times a day (total of 3/per day)

Colloidal Silver for Eye Infections / Ears. For the kids I did 2 drops of colloidal silver in each eye 2/day until their eyes were clear, and then one day more.

3 drops 4/day for their ears, in each ear, if both are infected. A special note about ears though, try as hard as you can to get them to lay still, on their side for a good 5 minutes or so after you've put the drops in that ear, to really let it get into the ear drum. Then when the do sit up, slowly, have a tissue handy in case a bit dribbles out.

As I want to be totally honest, the only time we've gotten an Rx after finding silver was a few months ago when our daughter got a fast and furious double ear infection. She was fine one day, the next both ear drums were bulging and she had a raging fever. We did Silver as I had before, but I could tell something was different this time and I'm glad we went in. Poor love.

Use your best judgement. We aren't 100% against antibiotics, if needed, of course we will do what is best for our family. However, finding Silver has changed everything for us, so I foresee a lot less Rx in our house!

Which Colloidal Silver to get?

Please please please if you do anything, do not waste your money elsewhere. Sovereign Silver is the purest ingredients with zero additives. It's made with 99.999% pure elemental silver and purified water. There are no added silver salts or other compounds. This makes it extremely safe, simple and most importantly, pure.

I raved to my grandmother last Spring about how much Silver had helped us, she was intrigued and went to her local health food store - where she got a good deal on two bottles of a different brand of Silver. I told her to go ahead and try it (for a UTI) but she wasn't seeing results. So I had her check the ingredients and sure enough, it had a handful of other things added.

I think it's so important to get the best there is. It is worth every. penny. Trust me on that one.

If you're local to the Bay Area, Harvest House in Concord sells it - as well as GNC in Brentwood. If you aren't, you can order it on Amazon like I do (a bit cheaper and with Prime you pay nothing for shipping!) Click here to see that.

I just feel really strongly about this stuff, I know how much it's helped us and I hope maybe this information helps someone else. Don't hesitate to ask any questions!

Clean Your Fruits | DIY Natural Fruit + Veggie Cleaner

DIY NATURAL FRUIT CLEANER | www.angiewarren.com

*Update to this post found here!

My friend Kristine shared her fruit cleansing recipe recently and once I tried it, I was hooked! Mostly because the addition of citrus essential oil just adds a BURST of summery flavor to whatever fruit I'm cleaning.

I know Kristine had measurements, but I kind of suck at measuring stuff. So here's what I do:

  • fill my mama's giant sliver bowl with fruit

  • just barely cover with water

  • pour in a bit more than a splash of white vinegar (or ACV)

  • add 2-3 drops of any citrus oil (lemon, orange, grapefruit, whatever is handy)

  • swirl

  • let sit for about 5 minutes

  • swirl again

  • rinse

  • enjoy

Even though you'll rinse the fruit, there's just a tiny hint of the citrus oil. Tiny. Hint. It's amazing and my favorite way to enjoy fresh fruit! The kids love the taste!
